On April 22nd, 21 members visited the grounds of Glyndebourne Opera House, open to the public once a year.

Set in a beautiful fold of the Sussex Downs, Glyndebourne was opened as a private opera house in 1934 in a 17th century manor house.  The modern building was opened in 1994.  The beautiful grounds include formal gardens and an ornamental lake, where opera lovers picnic during the summer season.

The gardens have some interesting features, worth the visit, including a dye garden dyes from which are used in the costume making, but were a little late developing due to the cold weather.

The whole experience, exploring the opera house itself as well as the gardens, made a memorable visit.
