🌿 Claygate Gardening Society – Two Stunning Summer Garden Trips! 🌿
Join us for two exclusive double-bill garden visits this summer, exploring breathtaking historic homes and gardens. These trips are perfect for garden enthusiasts and history lovers alike!
🌺 Trip 1: West Green House & Upton Grey – 12 June 🌺
We begin in Hampshire with a visit to West Green House and Gardens, an 18th-century National Trust property that survived an IRA bombing and is now beautifully maintained by Australian garden designer and opera enthusiast Marylyn Abbott.
Our second stop is The Manor House, Upton Grey, home to a stunning Gertrude Jekyll garden designed in 1908 as part of the Arts and Crafts movement. Expertly restored, it offers a rare glimpse into Jekyll’s original vision.
🌿 Trip 2: Penshurst Place & Ightham Mote – 17 July 🌿
Step back in time with a guided tour of both house and garden at Penshurst Place, a grand hall house dating back to 1341. Once a crown property, its former owner made the mistake of offending Henry VIII—and lost more than just his home!
We then visit Ightham Mote, described by historian Nicholas Pevsner as “the most complete small medieval manor house in the county.” With its beautifully preserved architecture and picturesque setting, this self-guided tour is not to be missed.
📅 Spaces are limited to 20 per visit, so book your tickets today!
