About the event
The Laskett is the work of Sir Roy Strong, CH, the art historian, museum curator, writer, broadcaster and landscape designer. He created the gardens with his late wife Julia Trevelyan Oman CBE, starting with a bare field in 1974. The gardens are described as “the creative fruit of a happy marriage between two people who were at the centre of the arts for much of the latter half of the twentieth century” and exhibit all the flair, style and taste of their artistic designers.
Deposit, £10. Pub lunch at own cost (to be announced) or bring a picnic.
The provisional cost of £36 assumed 30 people. So far, we have only 14 bookings (deposit paid). On this basis, the cost per head will have to increase to £63. This is a longer journey (125 miles) which may have deterred some from booking in but should be well worth the visit to this very stylish garden. If more bookings are not made by the next meeting, 23rd March, we will have to decide if the visit should go ahead.
